Is ChoomBoonk Indian?

It is not Indian.  However, it is inspired by the Indian method and borrows several concepts from that culture.  If you could play the exercises fast enough you might feel that they do indeed resemble Indian rhythms.  However, out of respect for the Indian culture, many marvelous structural devices basic to the heart of Indian expression have not been drawn upon, such as sum, kali, and tehi nor have any tabla compositions been transposed to the drum set where despite good intentions their original meaning could be distorted and diluted.  Instead, it is hoped that ChoomBoonk will offer a means for the accomplished Western percussionist to really make the most of his or her own concepts, creating compositions which are idiomatic to the instrument while enriched by the influence of a friendly foreign discipline which revels in the intense mathematics of rhythmic complexity.
